At our dry cleaners in mountain view, we get asked the same question a lot.

Does it upset you when you buy new clothes and after a few runs through the washer, it looks like you’ve worn it for a year?

Making Loads Count

Well here are some tips to make every one of your loads count, and let your clothes maintain that “new” look a little longer.

Salt is a natural gift from mother, for food or laundry. Most people know putting salt is essential to making your food taste better, but did you know it goes the same for laundry as well?

Salt can prevent fading of clothes, but also help restore color to your aging fabric! Add 1/2 cup of salt to each load of laundry.

Getting Water Temperature Right

The temperature your clothes are in is vital. That maybe the biggest reason your clothes are fading.

Always remember to your laundry in the cold wash. Also hang drying is the best option, but if you don’t have the room in your home dry it in the low or no heat cycle.

It may be more time consuming, but it’ll definitely help your clothes in the long run.

Lastly, add vinegar to your rinse cycle. White vinegar naturally softens laundry by removing soap and residue.

It contains small amounts of potassium and sodium, which softens hard water and dissolves mineral build up. 1/2 cup of vinegar in every load can make big difference.
